Crude Glycerol (also known as glycerin) derived from the processing of biodiesel is impure and has little economic value. Alkali-catalyzed transesterification-derived Crude Glycerol typically has a dark brown colour with a high pH. (11-12)
To obtain distilled and refined Glycerin, Crude Glycerin is further processed in a distillation device. Residual organic matter, water, salt, methanol, and odours are eliminated during this glycerin refinement process. Crude Glycerin is a significant by-product of the biodiesel production process.
